Municipal Court

If you have received a traffic ticket and have questions, you will need to contact the court to which you were cited. The court name is located on the bottom of your citation, along with the appearance date and time.  More court contact information may be on the back of your citation.

Hubbard Municipal Court

Municipal Court in Hubbard is typically held on the first Wednesday of the month. At your first appearance (arraignment) you will enter a plea of not guilty or no contest.  A no contest plea has a guilty finding and a fine will be imposed. If you plead not guilty, you will be rescheduled for a trial at a later date, usually one or two months after your arraignment. If you are found guilty at trial, a fine will be imposed. There is no extra cost for having a trial.

Payment Options

If you are unable to pay your fine in full, you may set up a payment agreement.  There is a $10 monthly fee added to the payment agreement balance until the total is paid in full. The Court accepts payments of cash, check, money order as well as VISA, MASTERCARD, and DISCOVER credit cards.

Justice and State Courts

Justice courts are funded by the county. Minor traffic offenses, some misdemeanors and small civil claims are heard in these courts. In addition, the justice courts hear cases relating to violations of county ordinances, such as charges of excessive noise or dogs running at large.

These courts are the county equivalent of the municipal courts which exist in larger cities such as Salem. Marion Justice Court is located in Salem.

Most misdemeanors, all felonies, and civil cases are heard in state courts which are located in the Marion County Courthouse. State judges also conduct hearings at the Marion County Correctional Facility and at the Marion County Juvenile Department.

These courts are under the administrative authority of the State of Oregon which pays the salaries of the elected judges and their staff. Marion County provides space for offices, jury assembly, and courtrooms. The Marion County Sheriff's Office is responsible for court security, prisoner transport and service of warrants and other court papers.
